A Park, by Any Other Name

True icons don’t need a long name. Just ask Madonna or Beyoncé.

We can add Irvine’s newly christened Great Park to that list. Irvine City Council officially approved a change to the name of the Orange County Great Park at their meeting on July 27th. Dropping “Orange County” from the park’s name will better showcase its ownership and its growing national appeal.

“The city of Irvine is a top destination that is home to multiple attractions, including Great Park,” says Mayor Farrah Khan. “We are proud of this state-of-the art amenity, which draws internationally-known artists, national sports teams and competitions, and visitors from across the country. The modified name better represents the city where it resides, and how this amenity is owned and operated.”

Updates reflecting the name of Great Park will be completed in a phased approach, using existing resources responsibly to minimize the financial impacts of modifications. The new website address will be yourgreatpark.org, reflecting the universal appeal and broad use of Great Park. The park’s social media accounts will also be updated to @yourgreatpark.
